Akash Deep Survives - (Source : @Johns/X.Com)
Umpiring has generally been on point in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, but things took a drastic turn in the 114th over of the match, when on-field umpire Sharfuddoula came under the scanner for multiple poor decisions.
Notably, Chris Woakes dismissed Ravindra Jadeja on the second ball of the 114th over and nearly got his second wicket of the match when the umpire raised his finger on the following delivery after Chris Woakes trapped Akash Deep in front of the pads.
Umpiring Blunder Becomes A Laughing Stock
The Indian batter quickly opted for a review, and the replay showed that the ball was missing the stumps. The umpire had to reverse his decision, and Akash Deep survived. Two balls later, Woakes again trapped Akash Deep in front of the wickets.
This time, the ball looked more in line with the stumps, and the umpire once again raised his finger. The England players were confident they had their man, and Ben Stokes was even seen confronting Washington Sundar, urging him not to take a review.
However, India went ahead with the review and, once again, the replay showed that the ball was missing the leg stump.
Akash Deep Stuns Archer With A Six
Meanwhile, Akash Deep made full use of the opportunity and smashed a six off Jofra Archer before eventually returning to the pavilion for a low score. It is worth noting that Akash Deep joined the elite list of India bowlers to hit a six at Lord's.
The last player was Mohammed Shami, who scripted this feat in 2021. It is worth noting that Ashish Nehra is also part of this elite list. Talking about the match, at the time of writing this article, India again suffered a collapse and got little support from the tail-enders, resulting in scores levelled after the first innings.
