Nearly a year since the Khar Gymkhana controversy involving Jemimah Rodrigues and her father, allegedly linked to suspicious activities during meetings with Brother Manuel Ministries over an 18-month period, Jemimah has finally broken her silence.
Addressing the incident that deeply affected her faith and led to her suspension from the Khar Gymkhana, Jemimah described it as one of the toughest phases of her life.
Rodrigues shares family experience after Khar controversy
Speaking to India Today, Jemimah Rodrigues revealed that the false allegations took a heavy emotional toll on her, especially as she was already battling poor form following the World Cup.
“Sir, to be honest, I remember when that happened. It was one thing for me to face it, but when my parents were dragged into it for something we didn’t do, it really hurt. Everything we did at that time was according to the rules and regulations — and we had proof of that. But the allegations made against me and my family really affected us deeply because we had done nothing wrong,” Jemimah said on India Today.
Recalling the night she first heard about the controversy, Jemimah said she broke down in tears upon receiving the news. Despite the hardship, she expressed gratitude to God for helping her regain strength and make a strong comeback.
“That happened right after the World Cup in Dubai, where we hadn’t done well. I personally hadn’t performed to my expectations and was already feeling low. Then suddenly, I started seeing news, messages, and people saying terrible things about me, and worse, about my family and my church. That broke me. I remember my brother calling me, and I just started crying. I didn’t know what to do. It felt like one blow after another, first my performance, and then false allegations about my family,” Jemimah said.
Jemimah has since emerged as one of India Women’s standout performers, averaging 58.40 and scoring an unbeaten 127 in the semi-final against Australia, one of the most memorable knocks in recent years. She continues to shine as the team prepares to face Australia again in 2026.
