Indian cricket fans are at an all-time high level of excitement, with the IPL retention lists for all teams set to be unveiled on November 15. While a high-profile trade between CSK and RR, involving Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran and Sanju Samson, has become a hot topic of discussion, the other IPL franchises are actively finalising their final retention list, which they will submit to the governing council before the deadline.

As a mini auction will be conducted this time, the ten franchises —MI, RCB, CSK, PBKS, RR, SRH, LSG, GT, DC, and KKR —are expected to retain their core groups. However, some players, who massively underperformed last season, might also find themselves on the retention list, as explained below.

Jamie Overton - CSK (IPL 2025 price- 1.5 Cr)

Why could CSK retain Jamie Overton?

  • Jamie Overton was one of the biggest disappointments for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025. The English mainstay managed only 15 runs while failing to pick up a wicket across two innings.
  • That said, CSK may still end up retaining Jamie Overton amid the reports of Sam Curran's likely trade to Rajasthan Royals. Overton has a price of INR 1.5 Crores, which is certainly affordable for the Super Kings. If they release Curran, Overton could be retained as a reserve allrounder, especially considering his recent form.
  • In the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand, Overton shone brightly with the bat, scoring 156 runs at an average of 52. While his strike rate in T20s post-IPL 2025 reads 157.7, Overton has bagged eleven wickets in the shortest format in this period at an impressive strike rate of 15.7. So, given that he adds immense value as an allrounder and his retention doesn't put a financial burden on CSK, the five-time champions might decide against releasing him to the auction pool.

Ramandeep Singh - KKR

(Ramandeep Singh's IPL 2025 record)

  • Ramandeep Singh actually had a horrendous season for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2025, managing just 47 runs across seven outings at an average of 9.40.
  • To Ramandeep's defence, it's fair to say that KKR somehow underutilised his potential, sending him at number seven or below on six out of seven occasions. Ramandeep's T20 record speaks for itself, as he has 687 runs at a blistering strike rate of 169.21. More importantly, 125 runs were scored off his blade at an average of 31.25 and a strike rate of 201.61 in KKR's title-winning 2024 season.
  • Considering an allrounder like Ramandeep, who can also finish the innings, is hard to find in the mini auction, it won't be surprising if KKR decide to retain him for INR 4 crores before IPL 2026.

Ishan Kishan - SRH

Why could SRH retain Ishan Kishan?

  • Ishan Kishan had a magnificent start to his IPL stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad, slamming a belligerent ton for the Orange Army on debut. However, his form dipped as the tournament progressed, as the southpaw could score only 33 runs in his next seven innings.
  • Ishan's failure at number three was a major reason behind SRH's downfall in the IPL 2025, as the Pat Cummins-led side suffered a humiliating group-stage exit. That said, Ishan regained his mojo in the subsequent games, presenting a strong case for his retention for the 2026 season.
  • An average of just over 35 in the IPL 2025 certainly doesn't justify Ishan's potential. However, with several reports claiming Heinrich Klaasen's release to the auction pool, SRH might retain Ishan against the odds to have at least one quality keeper-batter in their setup. It will certainly be a bonus if they use the RTM card to get Klaasen back and boost their middle-order.

Marcus Stoinis - PBKS

(Marcus Stoinis' IPL 2025 record)

  • Veteran Australian allrounder Marcus Stoinis had a forgettable time in IPL 2025. He was one of the biggest under-performers for Punjab Kings, amassing 160 runs at a modest average of 26.67. Although his retention will cost INR 11 Crores, PBKS might still take the gamble, considering Stoinis' all-round attributes, experience, ability against raw pace and recent form.
  • The explosive Australian batter averaged 29.20 and struck at an impressive rate of 152.08 in The Hundred 2025 before oozing his class against India on home soil. In the third T20I against India, Stoinis hammered 64 runs off just 39 deliveries, while also picking three wickets in the series.
  • Getting a proper replacement for Stoinis in the same price range could be a daunting task for PBKS, as there will be limited options in the mini auction. Therefore, the IPL 2025 runners-up might retain the Australian cricketer and assign him the finishing duties for at least one more season.

Suyash Sharma - RCB

Why could SRH retain Suyash Sharma?

  • Young Indian spinner Suyash Sharma could scalp eight wickets from 14 matches in the IPL 2025. While his wicket column suggests an underwhelming season, Suyash's ability to keep the run rate under check earned him massive praise from fans and critics.
  • Suyash complemented Krunal Pandya magnificently, as the duo proved to be RCB's go-to weapon in the middle overs. RCB ended up winning the IPL 2025, and as the legend goes, "you don't fix something that is not broken", the Royal Challengers might retain Suyash for the IPL 2026.
