In a major development, former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has dropped out of the race to be Pakistan's limited-overs head coach due to prior commitments, despite PCB initiating a groundbreaking $2 million offer.

With Mohsin Naqvi taking over as the new PCB chairman, changes were expected within the management. Interim director Mohammad Hafeez was dropped after his four-month tenure expired, and with that, Pakistan senior cricket team was left without a head coach with the New Zealand series on the horizon.

Meanwhile, in a desperate quest, PCB approached former Australian all-rounder and Quetta Gladiators coach Shane Watson for a potential role with the team. As per reports, the apex body offered Watson $2 million to take charge as Pakistan's limited overs head coach with immediate effect.

Moreover, Watson was also equally interested and took the offer seriously. However, after serious contemplation, Shane Watson has now decided to decline the offer and drop out of the race to be the Men in Green's head coach.

Apparently, Watson has prior commitments that he cannot dump on short notice. Notably, the former all-rounder is scheduled to commentate in the upcoming IPL season in India. Besides, he is coaching San Francisco Unicorns and Quetta Gladiators in Major League Cricket and PSL, respectively.

Not only that, Shane Watson has a young family in Sydney, and embracing a full-time coaching role with Pakistan would require him to spend a lot of time in the state. Therefore, due to unavoidable circumstances, Watson rejected a record offer from PCB.

With that, Pakistan's senior cricket team remains without a coaching staff ahead of the New Zealand series. With Hafeez being laid off, the cricket administration continues to function without a supervising director.

Overall, Pakistan cricket has indulged itself in a deep mess, and Shane Watson's hesitancy to coach the team has only added to the existing crisis.
