Shamim Hossain has been recalled back into Bangladesh squad for the upcoming series-deciding third T20I against Ireland in Chattogram. On a trail of some below par outings in white-ball cricket for Bangladesh over the past couple of months, the 25-year-old was dropped from the national squad for the home series against Ireland.

However, the decision of excluding Shamim from the squad did not sit down well with national skipper Litton Das, who recently took a dig at the selectors. While speaking with the reporters before the first T20I, captain Litton expressed his surprise and had said that neither he nor coach Phil Simmons were informed about the decision.

Shamim Hossain returns as Bangladesh eye series win

On Sunday, November 30, i.e., just a couple of days prior to Bangladesh’s third T20I against Ireland, discarded all-rounder Shamim Hossain made his return to the national squad after missing a couple of games in the series.

Earlier, Bangladesh Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain had said that Shamim was dropped from the squad to give wicketkeeper-batter Mahidul Islam Ankon an opportunity in the middle order. However, Ankon ended up not receiving a single crack in the playing XI in either of the two games by the Bangladesh team management.

Bangladesh T20I captain Litton Das had questioned the selector’s decision, stating to the reporters that he should have been notified of any major changes to the squad. He also added that he did not understand the reason behind dropping Shamim Hossain, and the Bangladesh team “would have been better” if he was in the squad. For the record, Shamim Hossain has been struggling to put runs on the board off late. In his last seven T20I appearances for Bangladesh, the cricketer has registered three ducks and two other scores of just a single each.

With series locked at 1-1, Bangladesh will now face Ireland on Tuesday, December 2 in Chattogram.
