After India's heartbreaking loss in the Cricket World Cup 2023 final against Australia, a widely circulated video clip featuring Shahid Afridi has become the focal point of discussions on social media.

In the video, Afridi, the former Pakistan captain and T20 World Cup champion, appeared as a panellist on Samaa TV, expressing his belief that 'overconfidence' played a pivotal role in India's World Cup defeat. What adds significance to the video is that Afridi made this observation at the precise moment when India lost its third wicket, with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul batting in the middle.

Afridi astutely remarked, "Jab aap continuously jeete jaate ho, toh aap overconfident bhi ho jaate hain, wo aapko marwa deti hai."

A valiant effort marked India's journey in the final, but they could only manage 240 runs, getting all out on the last ball of their innings. Despite an aggressive start from captain Rohit Sharma, who scored 47 off just 31 balls, and an attempt by experienced players KL Rahul and Virat Kohli to steady the ship, wickets kept falling. Rahul scored 66 runs off 101 balls, while Kohli contributed 54 runs off 63.

India faced early challenges in the bowling department but picked up top-order wickets in the powerplay. Despite the efforts of Bumrah and Shami, Travis Head's impactful century in the final, scoring 137 off 120 balls, proved to be the decisive factor, drifting the trophy away from Rohit Sharma and co.

The defeat in the final was a bitter end to India's otherwise impressive campaign in the World Cup. The Indian team showcased an outstanding performance throughout the tournament, achieving an unprecedented 10 consecutive victories. Guided by the dynamic captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the flawless campaign resonated deeply with the nation.

Rohit Sharma emerged as a key figure in India's triumphs, demonstrating exceptional leadership skills and making substantial contributions with the bat and strategic insights as skipper.
