In an electrifying final at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on November 19, Australia seized their sixth ICC World Cup title, defeating India by six wickets. Pat Cummins, leading the Australian side, made a strategic decision to bowl first after winning the toss.

Australia crashed India's party to win their sixth World Cup title

India, batting first, was restrained to a modest total of 240 runs. This was primarily due to an exceptional bowling performance from Australia, with Mitchell Starc taking three important wickets. For India, Virat Kohli (54) and KL Rahul (66) were the main contributors with the bat. The Australian bowling attack, comprising Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, and Glenn Maxwell, also made significant contributions, limiting India's scoring opportunities.

India started their defense of the total with vigour. Mohammed Shami provided an early breakthrough, dismissing David Warner. Jasprit Bumrah further dented Australia's chase by taking the wickets of Mitchell Marsh and Steven Smith. However, these early successes were not enough to contain Australia.

The match saw a remarkable turn as Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne formed a formidable partnership for the fourth wicket, adding a massive 192 runs. Head's scintillating 137 off 120 balls and Labuschagne's steady 58 not out were instrumental in Australia's chase, reaching the target with 42 balls to spare.
