The Indian batting maestro, Virat Kohli, has recently faced scrutiny due to his inconsistent performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he has managed only 5 runs in his last three innings.

This has led to comparisons with Pakistan's Umar Akmal, particularly by former cricketer Kamran Akmal. Kamran highlighted that Umar's statistics in T20 World Cups surpass those of Kohli.

Umar has got better strike rate: Kamran Akmal

“Mujhe stats kal aaye hai, mai baat kar raha Umar ki (I have received the stats yesterday, I am talking about Umar). World Cup T20 matches mey Umar ke Virat Kohli se better numbers hai (In World T20s, Umar has got a better stats than Virat Kohli),” Kamran said. “Umar toh Virat ki choti ungli ke barabar hai (He is not even close to Virat Kohli, when it comes to his performances and his aura). But Umar has got better strike rate, highest score than Virat Kohli in the T20 World Cups."

He acknowledged Kohli's superior overall career and influence but pointed out Umar's better strike rate and highest score in T20 World Cups. Umar has played 18 innings, scoring three fifties with a strike rate of 132.43, including a notable 94 runs against Australia in 2014.

In contrast, Kohli's strike rate in T20 World Cups stands at 130.52, with his highest score being 89* against Pakistan in 2022.

Kamran also mentioned the disparity in media attention, attributing it to the lack of PR support for Pakistani players. He speculated that if such statistics belonged to a well-publicized player, it would have created a significant buzz.

He implied that the media often overlooks performances like Umar's due to the lack of promotion.

Despite his T20 World Cup struggles, Kohli has shown exceptional form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, securing the Orange Cap by amassing 741 runs in 15 innings with a strike rate of 154.74.

However, his inability to replicate this success in the T20 World Cup 2024 has sparked debate about his current form compared to Umar Akmal's past performances in the same format.
