In a significant development, Pakistan fans can rejoice as their star seamer Shaheen Afridi is likely to regain full fitness ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. For the unversed, Afridi pulled out of the ongoing edition of BBL after a knee injury on December 27.

The injury occurred during the Brisbane Heat vs Adelaide Strikers match when Afridi landed heavily on his left knee and walked off the field. The southpaw eventually pulled out of the league to get fit in time for the T20 World Cup and returned to Pakistan to start rehabilitation at the High Performance Centre in Lahore.

Shaheen Afridi to hit nets in 10-15 days

There were speculations that the 25-year-old might miss the prestigious twenty-over event, given his past history of knee injuries. However, that is unlikely this time around.

Pakistan fans can breathe a sigh of relief as a report from Saleem Khaliq stated that Afridi’s injury is not serious and the left-arm seamer is expected to start bowling in the nets in the next 10-15 days. Thus, Afridi might start running on the ground around mid-January and will still have 15-20 days before the World Cup starts.

Afridi not part of Sri Lanka tour

Notably, Pakistan are yet to announce its 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup and have time till January 7 to make it public. At present, the PCB has only named the squad for the upcoming Sri Lanka series, which will serve as a practice ground for the T20 World Cup.

Shaheen Afridi is not part of the Sri Lanka series, but it has nothing to do with his injury. It was decided earlier that the players who are playing in the BBL will not be considered for the T20I series, with Shadab Khan being the only exception.
