Ahead of the ODI series Vs New Zealand, Sri Lanka have been jolted with an injury setback for their key player. Spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of ODI series due to a hamstring injury he sustained during the second T20I Vs the Kiwis.

Sri Lankan cricket confirmed that Hasaranga has returned to Colombo and will continue his rehabilitation under the guidance of the team physio. Dushan Hemantha has replaced Hasaranga in the ODI squad as the Lankan Lions aim to continue their good work under head coach, Sanath Jayasuriya.

The star bowler of the Lankan side, Hasaranga has a rich history of injuries and it has constantly hampered his international career.

The first ODI match of the series will be played on November 13, with the remaining two fixtures set to take place on November 17, and 19. While the first ODI will take place in Dambulla, the second and the third ODI matches will be conducted at the Pallekele Stadium.

Sri Lanka will miss Hasaranga's services

Hasaranga was Sri Lanka's best bowler in the T20I series against the Kiwis. In the first match, he showcased his brilliance and grabbed 2 wickets as the Lankan Lions won the contest.

In the second match, which was once again a low-scoring thriller, the star bowler grabbed 4 wickets to torment the Kiwi batters, but despite his best efforts with a hamstring injury, Sri Lanka lost the match from a winning situation.

Despite boasting quality bowling options, Sri Lanka will miss Hasaranga's services in the ODI series against New Zealand, who are vulnerable against spin bowling.
