Setback For Gautam Gambhir As BCCI Rejects Morne Morkel For Bowling Coach Role

In a significant move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has declined the proposal of newly recruited head coach Gautam Gambhir to hire ace South African speedster Morne Morkel as India's bowling coach.

Morkel was one of Gautam Gambhir's recommendations for the esteemed position, along with former Indian internationals L Balaji and R Vinay Kumar.

However, according to The Hindustan Times, the board has shown no interest in any of these players as India continues searching for Paras Mhambrey's successor.

BCCI rejects Morkel for bowling coach role

This isn't the first time the governing body has turned down Gambhir's recommendation for the coaching staff.

Earlier, the BCCI rejected Vinay Kumar and L Balaji while not considering Gambhir's two fielding coach suggestions—Ryan Ten Doeschate and Jonty Rhodes.

Considering only Abhishek Nayar has received the board's approval, it's assumed that the BCCI wants an all-Indian coaching staff for the men's team.

Furthermore, it's worth mentioning that T Dilip's contract has been extended, and he will continue to serve as India's fielding coach.

India squad for SL series to be announced today

Gautam Gambhir's first coaching assignment is going to be India's white-ball tour of Sri Lanka where they will be engaged in three T20Is and ODIs against the hosts.

The squad for both series will be announced today, with Suryakumar Yadav likely to be named as India's new T20I captain.
