The focus has now shifted to the Asia Cup 2025, which commences on September 9 in the UAE. The selectors will assemble later this month to pick a 15-member squad, and the list is expected to be made public in the third week of August.

At present, several spots are up for grabs, and there is an embarrassment of riches for the selectors to pick the final 15.

Selectors Divided Over Shubman Gill

In the latest development, a report from the Telegraph mentioned that the selectors are still divided over Gill's inclusion. Notably, the right-handed batter is on song as he was one of the top scorers in IPL and also topped the scoring charts in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

A section of selections wants Gill to be a part of the Asia Cup squad, but the other half is against bringing in the 25-year-old to the shortest format of the game, as it might shake his tempo and also change the team's structure.

Further, the West Indies Test tour begins a week after the Asia Cup and the selectors are also considering Gill's workload management.

If the selectors opt for Shubman Gill, then it will be trouble for Sai Sudharsan and Yashasvi Jaiswal as one of the top two stars might lose out on their spot.

Notably, Jaiswal did well in the IPL, while Sai was the orange-cap winner.

Sanju's Spot Not Guaranteed; Siraj's Workload To Be Monitored

According to the report, even Sanju Samson's spot isn't guaranteed despite him being the front-runner to be the man with the gloves. The report added that Jitesh Sharma and Dhruv Jurel are two other keepers giving a tough fight to the RR captain for his place in the Asia Cup squad.

Bumrah and Siraj continue to be monitored as they had a tough and tiring England series and will most likely be left out to be given adequate rest.

Kuldeep Missing

Interestingly, the report mentioned that Washington Sundar, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel are certainties, along with Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi as specialist spinners.

However, it didn't mention Kuldeep Yadav, who has been India's front-line spinner so far. Thus, it is to be seen whether there will be any sort of drama regarding selection in the spin department.
