In a surprise move, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief curator Tony Hemming has stepped down from his role barely 13 months after joining, the board confirmed on Saturday. Hemming will now rejoin BCB as head curator.
Hemming, a highly respected Western Australian with nearly 40 years of pitch-preparing experience, was appointed in July 2024 on a two-year contract. However, before a change could be witnessed, the veteran had called it quits.
Tony Hemming Will Rejoin Bangladesh After Ditching PCB
In an official statement, PCB confirmed that Tony Hemming has resigned from his post as chief curator with immediate effect. So far, the board hasn’t announced his replacement.
During his short stint in Pakistan, Hemming oversaw pitch preparations for some major events. This included Pakistan’s ICC World Test Championship matches against Bangladesh and England in 2024, as well as all pitches for the high-profile ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, hosted in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9.
When Hemming initially joined PCB, he replaced Zahid, a veteran curator who first joined the board in 2001 and served as Chief Curator from 2004. Zahid stepped down in 2020, returned under former PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja in 2021, and was eventually succeeded by Hemming in 2024.
Tony Hemming Returns To Bangladesh
According to ESPN Cricinfo, Tony Hemming has been rehired by the Bangladesh Cricket Board after cutting ties with PCB. He had previously worked with the BCB before joining PCB, taking over after his Bangladesh contract ended last year. With Bangladesh, he will be a turf manager for 2 years, supervising international and domestic venues, and will also train local curators.
