In a significant development, the MCC has put up Lord's outfield on sale as the club members and fans now stand a chance to own 1.2-metre x 0.6m chunks of turf for £50. The move is aimed at raising funds and improving facilities at the Home of Cricket.

For the first time since 2002, the fans can pay 50 euros to own a part of the Lord's outfield as the MCC will hire volunteers in September to dig up the field and complete the orders. It involves stripping off the top 15mm of turf and then laying fresh seed so there is a brand new surface.

Notably, there are around 25,000 MCC members and they expect to raise a good amount of money to develop the infrastructure.

Lord's Turf Up For Sale

“To raise funds for the MCC Foundation, and to aid future development of the cricket field, we are offering all Members the chance to own a piece of Lord’s turf, a part of the stage on which so many magical moments have taken place,” read the message as quoted by the Telegraph.

While the money will help in bettering development at the Lord's, 10% of the amount will go to the MCC foundation.

Lord's Plan To Bring In Drop-In Pitches In Coming Years

Further, the chief curator at Lord's plans to bring in drop-in pitches in the coming years.

"The Lord’s square is under head groundman Karl McDermott’s control. Director of cricket operations Rob Lynch has also been exploring the option of using a drop-in pitch in order to replace a strip in the coming years," as quoted by the Telegraph.

Notably, the iconic venue hosted two great Tests recently, where India squared off against England and Australia, and South Africa locked horns in the WTC 2025 final.
