Former Indian cricketers Saurabh Tiwary and Shahbaz Nadeem have embarked on a new journey. The two cricketers, who represented Jharkhand during their playing days, have joined JSCA (Jharkhand State Cricket Association) as administrators.

Readers must note that both Tiwary and Nadeem had retired from professional cricket last year. Subsequently, both the players played for India Masters during International Masters League in Raipur earlier this year.

“There was a group here who approached me and Saurabh [Tiwary] asking us to stand for the elections. They wanted us to guide Jharkhand cricket. Initially, I was in two minds but after giving it a thought we decided to contest the elections. This state has made us cricketers and we have played here for the last 25 years. Now it has given us a chance to be cricket administrators. We feel we can contribute,” Nadeem told The Indian Express.

The group that Nadeem referred to was led by Ajay Nath Shahdeo (President) and comprised Sanjay Pandey (Vice President) and Amitabh Ghosh (Treasurer).

Saurabh Tiwary and Shahbaz Nadeem Represented India Sporadically

Part of India’s U-19 World Cup victory under Virat Kohli in 2008 before playing three ODIs in 2010, Tiwary is the state association’s new secretary. Nadeem, who played both his Tests under Kohli much later, is JSCA’s new joint secretary.

Both the players were also part of former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s last match for the state – the second quarter-final of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2015/16 in Bengaluru.

As far as the Indian Premier League is concerned, Tiwary’s 11-season career consisted of three separate stints for Mumbai Indians and one each for Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Bengaluru), Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) and Rising Pune Supergiants.

Nadeem, who also played in 11 IPL seasons, plied his trade for Delhi (2011-2018) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (2019-2021).
