The second phase of the 18th season of the Indian Premier League will kick-start at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 17. Interestingly, the season opener was also played between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens.
Going by the current status of both the teams on the points table, a victory for RCB would make them the first team to qualify for the playoffs. Assuming it happens, defending champions KKR will be eliminated despite another match to be played.
On the contrary, a victory for Knight Riders will add further spice to the qualification race. Speaking particularly of this rivalry at this stadium, Royal Challengers haven’t won a match in the last decade. As far as the players are concerned, the following names stand a chance to achieve individual milestones:
750 Sixes In T20s
Veteran Kolkata all-rounder Andre Russell needs three sixes to become only the third player to hit 750 such shots in T20 history. As things stand, only West Indian legends Kieron Pollard (908) and Chris Gayle (1,056) have hit more sixes than Russell in this format.
100 Sixes In The IPL
Included into the squad as a replacement for Devdutt Paddikal, Bengaluru batter Mayank Agarwal is highly likely to resume his RCB career after as many as 12 years in the imminent match itself. Two short of reaching 100 sixes in IPL history, the 34-year-old player would be motivated enough on his comeback at his home ground.
50 Sixes In The IPL
Playing for his third franchise in as many years, RCB batter Phil Salt has a chance to continue bettering his IPL career. The right-handed batter needs just three sixes to complete 50 sixes in the cash-rich league.
750 Fours In The IPL
Former Royal Challengers captain Virat Kohli is a shot away from completing 750 fours in the IPL. Set to play his first competitive match since retiring from Test cricket, Kohli could achieve the record on the first ball that he faces on Saturday. Notably, only former India batter Shikhar Dhawan (768) has hit more fours more than Kohli in this competition.
9,000 Runs For RCB
Never short of achieving records, Kohli also needs 67 runs to complete 9,000 runs for his franchise. Across 269 innings for them, Kohli has amassed 8,933 runs at an average and strike rate of 39.52 and 133.34 respectively. Not only their highest run-scorer, he also has almost double the number runs scored by the next best – AB de Villiers (4,522).
