Saurabh Kumar, the Uttar Pradesh-born cricketer, has decided to shift base from his home state to Andhra Pradesh according to a report from Cricbuzz. The left-arm spinner has been a consistent performer in the Indian domestic circuit and was among the next crop of Indian spinners just a few series ago.
Saurabh Kumar Set To Strengthen Andhra Cricket In New Domestic Season
He was part of India's squad during the home Test series against England in 2024 and also came close to debuting during the tour of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the last year or so. Cricbuzz stated that the player's transfer has received approval from both the Andhra Pradesh Cricket Association (APCA) and Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA).
The decision to bring in Saurabh Kumar has been approved by the general body during the AGM of Andhra Pradesh Cricket Association. The report further states that senior Andhra Pradesh players are also in favour of bringing in an experienced consistent performer in their squad after a poor domestic season in 2024.
"I am excited to play for Andhra. I am looking forward to the coming season. I hope to guide Andhra to the title at least in format and to the final of the Ranji Trophy," Saurabh Kumar to Cricbuzz.
Saurabh Kumar is one of the rare cricketers in the Indian domestic circuit with over 300 first-class wickets and two hundreds with the bat. He has 25 five-wicket hauls in his red-ball career and has eight 10-fers in the 79-match first-class career.
The cricketer is now 32-year-old and would be hoping that the shift to Andhra brings him back in the Indian team after being ignored in the last few series. He also did not make a cut in the India A squad and would be itching to revive his career with strong performance in the next domestic season.
