Sarfaraz Khan continued his dream red-ball run as he smashed yet another century in the Buchi Babu Tournament, this time against Haryana. This was his second hundred of the tournament, with the first one coming against the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. With this knock, he has auditioned for a place in India’s Test squad.

The Mumbai batter smacked a whirlwind 99-ball ton to take his team to a strong position. Moreover, this was a statement knock as India is set to play its home summer against West Indies and South Africa, and the batter has thrown his name in the selection hat.

Sarfaraz knocking on selectors' doors for Test call-up

Two hundreds in the Buchi Babu Tournament, and Sarfaraz has once again shown his capability in red-ball cricket. Against a strong Haryana bowling attack, Mumbai had a solid start, as the openers added 69 runs, but the side lost three wickets in quick successions.

This is where Sarfaraz showed his experience, and alongside Hardik Tamore, steadied the ship. Once the dust settled in, Sarfaraz Khan shifted gears and went onto notch a 99-ball ton, which included 9 fours and 5 sixes. This innings under pressure has once again put Sarfaraz in the selection frame, as Team India's Test squad for the home summer would be announced next month.

Why was Sarfaraz dropped from the Test team?

Sarfaraz Khan last played a Test match for India in November 2024 against New Zealand, and despite scoring a ton in the series, the batter was dropped from the Australian tour. He was one of the shining lights for India against the Kiwis, but despite of scoring truckloads of runs, the batter faced the axe as selectors felt his technique wasn’t strong enough to succeed in Australian conditions.

Now, with Sarfaraz being in great scoring form, the selectors might have to rethink their selection decision.
