In a significant development, India have released Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal from their Test squad to play the Irani Trophy 2024. These three players were included in India's squad for the ongoing series against Bangladesh. However, they didn't get a chance to feature in the starting XI, with the hosts preferring their first-choice players for the series. 

Sarfaraz Khan will play a key role for Mumbai, while Jurel and Yash Dayal will represent the Rest Of India in the high-voltage face-off. The much-awaited red-ball fixture kickstarts tomorrow at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. 

Why Did India Exclude Sarfaraz And Jurel From Bangladesh Tests? 

Despite an impressive Test debut against England, Sarfaraz Khan lost his place to KL Rahul, who was preferred ahead of him for an additional batter's role in India's playing XI. Rahul lived up to the expectations, hammering a blistering fifty for the hosts in the second Test at Green Park. 

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant's Test return blocked the doors for Dhruv Jurel, who was left out of India's playing XI following his poor show in the Duleep Trophy. On the other hand, Yash Dayal was anyway a reserve pacer and warmed the bench during the Bangladesh Tests.

The Irani Trophy will comprise a high-octane red-ball match between the Rest Of India and Mumbai, the current Ranji Trophy champions. Stylish batter Ruturaj Gaikwad, who led India A to the Duleep Trophy title, will captain the Rest Of India in this match. 

On the other hand, Ajinkya Rahane will lead Mumbai, which features the likes of Sarfaraz and Shreyas Iyer. However, they will miss the services of Musheer Khan, who is ruled out of the tournament due to an unfortunate accident.
