Sanju Samson Scores Fighting 50 In Vijay Hazare Trophy After Another India Snub

Kerala skipper and batting stalwart Sanju Samson scored a fighting half-century for his side against Mumbai in their Group A Vijay Hazare Trophy match on November 25. Earlier this month, the cricketer was overlooked from India’s squad by national selectors for their five-match T20I series against Australia.

Samson, who has been only making sporadic appearances in international cricket since his debut in 2015, continues to rack up big runs in white-ball domestic tournaments only to find himself on the sidelines of India’s playing XI.

Sanju Samson responds to India snub with fighting 55

Batting at number three for Kerala in their latest Vijay Hazare Trophy 50-overs game against Mumbai, Sanju Samson led his side’s top-order recovery with a 126-run stand with centurion Sachin Baby. Samson himself scored a cautious 55 off 83 balls and glittered his innings with four boundaries and two sixes.

His knock, coupled with Sachin Baby’s 104, lifted Kerala to a competitive 231 upfront against Mumbai bowlers in their second match of the competition.

The innings marked his first notable batting performance since his latest snubbing from the Indian team. The last time Samson was considered for national selection was during India’s tour of Ireland back in August this year.

Since then, he has been excluded from team’s Asia Cup 2023 and World Cup 2023 squads, and his latest omission from India’s home series against Australia indicates that the cricketer is not on selector’s radar for next year’s T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies.
