Sanju Samson has begun his preparations for India’s upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh at home. The dashing wicketkeeper-batter was selected in India’s 15-player squad for the series earlier this month, and he is slated to take field under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav.
Samson recently toured Sri Lanka for T20I matches, where he sustained back-to-back ducks in Pallekele to cope much criticism for his faltering technique on spin-friendly surfaces.
Sanju Samson returns to RR centre for T20I training
On September 30, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson was spotted making his return to the Rajasthan Royals high performance centre. The 29-year-old cricketer, who recently played first-class fixtures for India D during the Duleep Trophy 2024 season, will be aiming to regain his white-ball groove in time for the series against Bangladesh.
Sanju Samson recently plundered a match-winning 106 from just 101 balls for India D against India B during the backend of the 2024 Duleep Trophy season. He pounded another 45 in the second innings of the match to catalyse India D’s huge 257-run win in Anantapur.
Samson’s T20I record, however, continues to remain an area of concern for Team India as he has maintained a batting average of just 19.30 after featuring in 26 innings. Moreover, in his last two international appearances, the attacking wicketkeeper-batter sustained back-to-back ducks against the Sri Lankan bowlers in Pallekele.
With a fresh opportunity on offer, Sanju Samson will be aiming to enhance his white-ball record in a bid to strengthen his claim as one of India’s leading wicketkeeping options in the absence of regular stumper Rishabh Pant.
India’s T20I series against Bangladesh will commence on October 6 at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior. The third and final match will be hosted by Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on October 12. Here is a look at India’s entire squad for the series:
