Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) President Rohan Jaitley has emerged as one of the contenders to become Jay Shah’s successor as BCCI secretary. BCCI treasurer Ashish Shelar, joint-secretary Devajit Saikia and Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) secretary Anil Patel are also among the leading nominees likely to supervise the Indian cricket board during Shah’s ICC duties.

Earlier this month, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal and former Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Avishek Dalmiya also emerged as frontrunners to replace the outbound BCCI secretary.

Back in late-August, Jay Shah was confirmed to become ICC’s next chairman. Taking over the profile unopposed, he also became the youngest ever to hold the position, doing so at the age of 35. He is expected to assume the role on December 1 later this year as Greg Barclay decided against seeking a third consecutive two-year term.

Upon getting announced as the next ICC Chairman, the Indian cricket administrator confirmed that reviving Test cricket would be one of his biggest agendas going forward.

As of now, Shah is tasked to determine the fate of Pakistan’s hosting rights for the 2025 Champions Trophy. The BCCI has repeatedly expressed its reluctance in sending the Indian team to Pakistan owing to the prevailing geo-political tensions shared between the two countries. Team India also played their share of 2023 Asia Cup matches in Sri Lanka, thus forcing Pakistan to co-host the tournament.
