Ryan Ten Doeschate, the new assistant coach of the Indian team has joined the camp in Sri Lanka ahead of the 3-match T20I series.

Ten Doeschate joins new coach, Gautam Gambhir's back-room staff, which also includes Abhishek Nayar as assistant coach, and the front-runner for the bowling coach, Morne Morkel.

Ten Doeschate was a part of the KKR squad as a fielding coach, and has closely worked with Gambhir during the IPL days (both as player and as coach). There has been speculation that with two assistant coaches, India will follow the split coaching path, with Ten Doeschate being part of the white-ball team, and Nayar, being the coach in Tests.

The Indian team arrived in Sri Lanka, a couple of days ago, and will play the first T20I against Sri Lanka on July 27, Saturday. This allows the new assistant coach to work closely with the Indian team for couple of days.

A former Netherlands player, Ten Doeschate was arguably the best batter of his country, averaging 67 in ODIs and a formidable 41 in T20Is. He previously represented Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, during a period when Gambhir was the captain of the side.

Talking about the upcoming series, India will play the T20Is first, followed by 3-match ODI series, which commences on August 2.
