IPL 2025 is still 9 months away, but the buzz has already been created. The IPL owners are set to meet BCCI on July 31, to discuss various topics, and one them could potentially be about the impact player rule.

With the mega auction to take place in December, the IPL owners want a clear roadmap going forward, as they await clarity on player retention, and the feasibility of the 'Right to Match'.

However, as per the latest report by SportStar, the Impact player rule, which was introduced in 2022 is likely to stay for the 2025 edition as well.

The rule has been heavily criticised by the experts, as it stops the growth of an all-rounder. Last season, key players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma heavily criticised the impact player rule, and wanted to completely scrap it. But the stakeholders and IPL owners feel that the rule has made the tournament more intense and interesting.

Also, in other news, the franchises are batting for the Right to Match Option, and they are also demanding increasing the number of retained players to eight.

“We will discuss each and every factor with the franchises and decide on the future course of action accordingly. We want a healthy discussion and the only objective is to ensure that all franchises get an equal opportunity,” a BCCI source stated.

With less than a week left for the IPL meeting, it will be interesting to see how things pan out between the owners and the board.
