In a major step forward for women’s representation in sports leadership, Rubaba Dowla has been appointed as a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The National Sports Council (NSC) confirmed her appointment on Monday, marking a historic moment.

Rubaba now becomes only the second woman ever to serve as a director in the BCB’s history, following Monowara Anis Minu, who held the position back in 2007.

Her inclusion brings a fresh wave of optimism about gender diversity in one of Bangladesh’s most powerful sporting organisations.

NSC confirms Rubaba Dowla as new BCB director

Rubaba Dowla replaces Isfak Ahsan, who recently resigned from his role as an NSC-nominated director.

Isfak’s short tenure became controversial after reports linked him to the ousted Awami League.

Although early reports claimed he was removed, the NSC later clarified that he had voluntarily stepped down, paving the way for Rubaba’s appointment.

Currently, Rubaba Dowla serves as the Country Managing Director for Oracle Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan.

Rubaba has been deeply involved in sports administration as well. She was the president of the Bangladesh Badminton Federation from 2009 to 2015 and is also a board member of Special Olympics Bangladesh.

She is expected to attend her first board meeting soon as the newly appointed NSC-nominated director.

Aminul Islam re-elected as BCB president for a four-year term

In another development, Aminul Islam has been re-elected as the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) following board elections held in Dhaka.

He will now serve a four-year term after previously taking charge in May. Former BCB president Faruque Ahmed and Shakhawat Hossain were elected as vice-presidents.

The 25-member board includes former captains Aminul, Faruque, and Khaled Mashud, while Abdur Razzak joins as a director. Despite minor controversies and reports of intimidation, voting concluded peacefully.
