The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially re-elected Aminul Islam Bulbul as its president, solidifying his leadership after a recent board election. In a significant move towards gender equality, the National Sports Council (NSC) is set to appoint the BCB's first female director.

This historic step involves replacing the NSC's current representative, M Isfak Ahsan, with a woman on the 25-member board of directors, marking a pivotal shift in the board's composition.

BCB's new push for gender equality

Aminul indicated in the first presser following the Bangladesh Cricket Board election that they are eyeing to include women as directors to bring in some form of gender balance within the board.

"Look, the law in cricket changes every year. With the new law, playing conditions also change. But our constitution doesn't change. So we will try to bring some changes," Aminul said after the election.

"The biggest change we should bring is that our cricket board is male dominated. We need female directors to create gender equality. We need independent directors. We will work a lot on that," Aminul added.

Aminul invites all stakeholders

Bulbul invited all the stakeholders to contribute to Bangladesh cricket, whether they are part of the board or not. The election was not without controversy, as star player Tamim Iqbal withdrew his candidacy citing government interference, and several club officials boycotted the process.

"Regardless of who is on the board, we will invite everyone to work with us and help take Bangladesh cricket forward. Bangladesh belongs to everyone. We will soon go to them (protesting clubs) and ask them to cooperate," Aminul concluded.

Aminul Islam emphasised unity and collective responsibility as the way forward for Bangladesh cricket. Aminul reaffirmed that the board’s primary goal is to strengthen and advance the nation’s cricketing future through cooperation with all stakeholders.
