It was an emotional day for Indian cricket on Sunday, November 2, as the Indian women beat South Africa to win their maiden World Cup title. It was a brilliant game from both sides as India, batting first, put 298 runs on the board and in reply, the Proteas women came close but fell short of 52 runs.
It was a close game as the match could have gone anywhere if Laura Wolvaardt had taken the game close. The South Africa captain scored a century but couldn't take her team past the finishing line. The crowd was all but in awe of the South Africa skipper and clapped for her throughout.

Notably, the Indian team and the entire stadium showed a great gesture and cheered for the opposition. Meanwhile, a video has now gone viral on the internet, where the fans were chanting 'Well played, Laura,' as she walked towards the podium to speak with the presenters.
Meanwhile, the Women's team too is making headlines for all the right reasons, as they too consoled players like Marizanne Kapp and others, who were in disbelief after the heartbreaking defeat in the final.
Smriti even conversed with Laura Wolvaardt and the rest of the South Africa squad and motivated them. In a nutshell, several beautiful scenes of sportsmanship and the true nature of the sport were on display on Sunday.
Several South Africa cricketers broke into tears after the defeat, but the fans and India players were there for them and showed full support for the way they played. Notably, ICC president Jay Shah too put out a special tweet for South Africa skipper for nearly winning the game for South Africa single-handedly.
