The winds of change are blowing through Bangladesh cricket, and Aminul Islam Bulbul is right at the heart of it. The former Bangladesh captain and recently re-elected BCB president has now been given the responsibility of leading the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Governing Council. This decision has set the tone for what promises to be an action-packed four years for the newly elected board.

Fresh start for BCB’s new regime

In its first board meeting since the elections, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) handed out key committee roles to its directors. The decisions, taken at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, are the beginning of a new chapter for Bangladesh cricket.

While there were a few surprises, like the absence of vice-president Faruque Ahmed from any committee, the overall tone was one of unity and optimism.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Faruque himself brushed off the omission, saying he wanted to "take it slow s he had just returned to the board room", hinting that he would still contribute to the best of his capacity.

Aminul takes charge of BPL and more

If there is one man whose plate is full, it is Aminul Islam. Apart from leading the BPL Governing Council, he will also chair the Working Committee and the Grounds Committee, which makes him the central figure in how Bangladesh cricket operates on and off the field.

Supporting him in the BPL setup will be Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, who has been named the Member Secretary of the Governing Council in addition to heading the Umpires Committee. Mithu confirmed that the next edition of the BPL will go ahead as planned in its traditional December-January slot.

Ex-players in key roles

It was not just about administrators, as some big cricketing names were also given key portfolios. Former Bangladesh skipper Khaled Mashud Pilot will oversee the High Performance Unit while ex-spinner Abdur Razzak takes charge of the Women's Wing.

Pilot, never one to mince words, summed up the mood best: "There are 25 directors here. This is a team that works together. The ideas are coming from everywhere.”

BCB’s roadmap ahead

Beyond the BPL, committees have been formed for every aspect of the game, from finance and facilities to marketing and welfare. The goal seems clear: a more structured, transparent and professional cricketing ecosystem.

Interestingly, Cricbuzz had earlier reported that the National Sports Council (NSC) is also eyeing the inclusion of a woman representative and now Rubaba Dowla has emerged as the front-runner.

Meanwhile, with Aminul Islam at the helm, Bangladesh's cricket governance looks set for a major reboot. The BPL remains the most important event in the domestic calendar, and under Aminul's leadership, the focus will be on bringing more professionalism, financial stability and fan engagement to the league.
