The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) has landed in a fresh controversy before their potential IPL 2026 match hosting, as the Bombay High Court has put a full stop on the elections to the apex council of the MCA. Concerns have been raised over the induction of 400 new members, including the relative of the current President.

Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad pointed out that the manner in which 400 members were added rapidly led to the belief of suspicious activities, and this response came after a petition was filed alleging that the Supreme Court’s norms were violated and the addition of multiple members were biased.

According to the petition filed by former Indian cricketer Kedar Jadhav and others, the members included had no connection to cricket and were only added to allow the individual to control the MCA as a private firm. The petitioners challenged the election process as illegal and firmly stood by their stance that 400 voters were inappropriately added to the voter’s list.

Considering the illegal ways in which the members were added, the court decided to condemn the action of adding 400 new members without a proper process.

As quoted by News18: “In the circumstances of the case, this Court cannot adopt a hands-off approach and allow the elections scheduled on January 6 to proceed. The high court should not permit the perpetuation of illegality," said the division bench, instructing the electoral officer to halt the election until further notice.

Fresh controversy to hamper MCA's IPL hosting dream

The trouble couldn’t have come at a worse time for MCA, considering that the board is set to host IPL 2026 matches. In all likelihood, the Rajasthan Royals or the IPL defending champions, RCB are set to shift their base to MCA Stadium in Pune for the upcoming season, and this could eventually bring in huge revenue for the organisation.

The BCCI has a strict policy, and the board could decide to pull the trigger and not allow MCA to host games if the internal problems are not solved in the next few days. The Royals’ home state board, RCA, faced a similar situation, and now they could be without an IPL match as the team is on the verge of exit from Jaipur.
