In the latest development related to Mustafizur Rahman, the Bangladesh seamer is unlikely to get any compensation after getting released from the IPL. The pacer was bought for 9.20 crore by KKR, and despite having no role in the ongoing India-Bangladesh turmoil, the seamer is set to face BCCI’s wrath, as he won’t be given a paycheque despite being removed without his will.
There was a three-way tussle between CSK, Delhi Capitals, and KKR to acquire his services, and in the end, the Shah Rukh Khan-owned KKR got its hands on Mustafizur. However, on the direct orders of the BCCI, the 9.20 crore seam bowler was removed from the league, and here’s why he might not get any compensation.
Why Mustafizur won't get any compensation despite getting abruptly removed
Mustafizur’s IPL removal is an interesting case since he neither pulled out of the league after getting signed by KKR, nor was he injured, nor were any wrongdoings committed. Hence, his case is a bit unique for the IPL.
His case was perfectly summed up an IPL source to the PTI: "The salaries of all IPL players are insured. For foreign international players, normally the franchise pays if he is injured after joining the camp or during the course of the tournament.
"Normally up to 50 percent is paid from insurance. It is better for India's injured centrally contracted cricketers who normally get paid by the BCCI."
However, this case is different since Mustafizur was not released due to any injury-related issues or any other suspicious activity, and it also does not fall under IPL's insurance policies, and hence, KKR is not contractually bound to pay him.
BCB takes action after Mustafizur's removal
The decision didn’t go well with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), as the board decided to ban IPL broadcasting in their nation, a decision that was announced by their sports advisor.
"I have requested the adviser for Information and Broadcasting to ensure that the broadcast of the IPL in Bangladesh is also suspended. Under no circumstances will we tolerate any insult to Bangladeshi cricket, cricketers, or Bangladesh itself. The days of servitude are over."
Moreover, BCB decided not to send the Bangladesh team to India for the T20 World Cup and they have written a letter to the ICC, demanding a venue change, citing security reasons as a way of retaliation.
