In a major revelation, Yashasvi Jaiswal was reportedly stopped from leaving Mumbai’s domestic team by his former Test captain, Rohit Sharma. The senior’s advice led to a change of heart as Jaiswal dropped a move to Goa and decided to stay with Mumbai.

Back in April, Jaiswal shocked everyone by applying for a NOC (No Objection Certificate) to shift from Mumbai to Goa, citing personal reasons. This news left the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) surprised, as Jaiswal had been one of their rising stars.

Rohit Sharma Intervenes To Stop Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Team Switch

According to Mumbai Mirror’s Gaurav Gupta, Rohit Sharma’s pep talk stopped Yashasvi Jaiswal from switching domestic bases from Mumbai to Goa.

As per MCA president Ajinkya Naik, Rohit reminded Jaiswal of the pride that comes with representing Mumbai, a team with a legendary Ranji Trophy history and 42 titles.

“Rohit asked Yashasvi to stay on in Mumbai at this stage of his career. He explained to Yashasvi that there was a lot of pride and prestige in playing for a team like Mumbai, which has won the Ranji Trophy a record 42 times. Rohit also told Yashasvi that he must not forget that he got a platform to show his talent and go on to play for India, thanks to the good cricket in the city for that," Naik said.

Rohit reportedly told Jaiswal not to forget that it was Mumbai cricket that gave him his start, helping him reach the national level.

"It was here in Mumbai that he started playing cricket on the maidans and that the city picked for all the age group teams of Mumbai. After that conversation with Rohit and a few other stalwarts who represented India and Mumbai, Jaiswal wrote an email to the MCA, requesting to withdraw his NOC for this year. It was nice of him to do it so fast,” he added.

The message hit home. Soon after, Jaiswal withdrew his NOC and sent an email to the MCA in May, confirming his availability for Mumbai in the coming domestic season.

Rohit’s Word Means A Lot To Jaiswal

For Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma’s words carry a lot of weight and value. He grew up idolising him, and the Mumbai senior mentored him every step of the way. Even during the Oval Test against England, the opener slammed a century and revealed having a chat with Rohit, who attended the game to support him and Team India. Hence, for Mumbai, Rohit’s intervention arrived at the right time to secure a supreme talent in Jaiswal.
