Rohit Sharma is rumoured to open again in India’s upcoming Test match against Australia, which is scheduled at Gabba, Brisbane. Pakistan’s coaching setup stability has once again gone for a toss. On the other hand, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka made a big admission on Rishabh Pant’s IPL. Here’s a total recap of major cricket news that broke on December 12.

Rohit Sharma likely to open in Gabba Test

Indian captain Rohit Sharma is likely to reclaim his opening spot from KL Rahul at the upcoming Test against Australia in Gabba. Brisbane. Rahul took his place in the Perth Test where the skipper was on rest due to personal commitments.

However, both players failed to perform in their respective order at the Adelaide Test. Also, Rohit appeared uncomfortable in the middle-order. Hence, as per the scenes at the net session, Sharma appears most likely to open in the upcoming Test.

South Africa announces 15-member squad for ODI series

South Africa released a 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan. Temba Bavuma will lead the side with many new faces included in the lineup. Kagiso Rabada has returned to the T20I set up with David Miller and Aiden Markram also continuing with the side. Young pacer Kwena Maphaka has received his maiden call up after his heroics against Pakistan in the ongoing T20I series.

Niroshan Dickwella’s ban lifted

Sri Lankan wicket-keeper batter Niroshan Dickwella is now free to play international cricket as the board lifted his three-year ban. Dickwella was banned for three years in August 2024 after his random doping test came back positive.

However, the batter appealed against the decision, and after careful reevaluation, his ban was reversed. Dickwella has not played international cricket since March 2024, after he was dropped from the Test side during the New Zealand series.

PCB fires red-ball coach, Jason Gillespie next in line

Pakistan cricket board has fired their high-performance red ball coach, Tim Nielsen, ahead of the Test series against South Africa. Nielsen was inducted on Gillespie’s recommendation in August this year.

However, PCB chose to not renew his contract and relieved him effective immediately. To add to the drama, Jason Gillespie is believed to be fired too. He took over as Test format coach earlier this year and also stepped in as interim all-format coach when Gary Kirsten resigned.

Sanjiv Goenka reveals why he cashed out INR 27 crore for Rishabh Pant

LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka made a startling revelation on his recent podcast appearance with TRS. He claimed that his team purposely bid a whooping INR 27 crore on Rishabh Pant to play with Delhi Capitals’ ego.

Goenka added that DC co-owner Parth Jindal is fond of Pant, and if he can go to INR 26 crore for Shreyas Iyer, he can definitely go to a similar length for Pant. Hence, by scaling the bid for INR 27 crore, Goenka ruled out DC and signed the dynamic wicketkeeper.
