In a significant development, India's squad announcement for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka has been delayed, with the selection meeting being postponed to Thursday. 

According to several media outlets, the selectors, BCCI secretary Jay Shah and India's newly recruited head coach Gautam Gambhir were set to meet and select the squad on Wednesday.

However, as per emerging reports, the meeting has been rescheduled for Thursday and the squad will be announced after that. 

Although the BCCI is yet to release an official word on the matter, it has been understood that the event's postponement is linked with India's T20I captaincy dilemma. 

While head coach Gautam Gambhir has proposed Suryakumar Yadav's name for India's next T20I captain, the BCCI apparently wants Baroda-based allrounder Hardik Pandya as Rohit Sharma's successor. 

In such a scenario, there arises an ego clash between the two parties, with a conclusion yet to be attained on the delicate matter.

As per the latest received reports, Rohit Sharma has made himself available for the Sri Lanka series, while uncertainty looms over the participation of Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah. 

Hardik Pandya will likely be unavailable for the ODI leg, while KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are set to return.
