The Indian team is soon going to announce their squad for coach Gautam Gambhir's first assignment in Sri Lanka. Notably, the former T20I and ODI World Cup winner has taken up the post after Rahul Dravid ended his tenure on a high note by winning the T20 World Cup 2024.

Before the Indian team for the upcoming Sri Lankan tour is announced, Gautam's childhood coach, Sanjay Bharadwaj, was seen backing his student's sharp observation skills and cricketing acumen. Bharadwaj believes that Gambhir will lead the Indian team to newer heights and take them to the top.

Gambhir's cricketing acumen and talent spotting skills

Reflecting on Gambhir's thinking pattern and the way he backs the talent he spotted, Bharadwaj named a few players who might be backed, at least during the initial days of this new age in Indian cricket.

"He could pick players like Kuldeep Yadav and Navdeep Saini in the India team setup. They are his product," Bharadwaj told PTI.

Kuldeep Yadav India's T20 World Cup Trump Card

Notably, Kuldeep Yadav played a crucial role for the Indian team during the T20 World Cup 2024. The left-arm wrist-spinner picked up ten wickets in five matches with an economy of just 6.95. His efficient spells in the middle overs played a pivotal role in giving the Indian team an advantage in most of the games.

Navdeep Saini's return to Indian set-up after 3 years

As far as Navdeep Saini is concerned, he was last seen donning the Indian jersey in a T20 game at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Sri Lanka on July 28, 2021. Interestingly, the speedster did not get to bowl a single delivery in that game.

Gautam Gambhir as a coach and mentor in IPL

Gautam Gambhir is a proven customer as far as leading a team to glory is concerned. Besides winning and playing a crucial role in the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 CWC as a player, Gambhir won the IPL with KKR in 2012 and 2014 as a captain. As a mentor, he ended KKR's 10-year-long trophy drought when he oversaw the team's title run in IPL 2024.
