Rohit Sharma went down the memory lane as he gears up to lead Team India in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka. The cricketer recalled his exclusion from team’s 2011 World Cup squad, which featured the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni and a young Virat Kohli.

While Sharma has ascended into a modern-day batting legend today, he recently narrated his journey to success, and how a certain former teammate motivated his comeback to the team.

Rohit Sharma recalls World Cup snub feeling

Rohit Sharma, who missed India’s 2011 World Cup glory at home, made a roaring comeback and starred in team’s 2013 Champions Trophy success in England. The opening batter also scorched his opponents throughout the 2019 World Cup, as he topped the run-scoring charts in the competition with five centuries.

While Sharma has ascended into a modern-day cricketing legend, the path to glory was filled with hard work, dedication, and some assistance from a former teammate. Ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup and World Cup 2023 editions, the Indian captain recalled his mixed emotions after 2011 snub, and described how Yuvraj Singh helped orchestrate his comeback into the team.

"He (Yuvraj Singh) told me, 'the best thing is that you have so many years in front of you. As we play in the World Cup, you take this chance to work hard on your game, skills and make a comeback," said Rohit Sharma.

"I went back to the drawing board, worked hard and immediately after the World Cup, I made a comeback and it has been good since then. Since this is me, who has gone through this emotion, no one can tell me that ‘easier said than done’. I have faced exclusion in a World Cup, and I know how it exactly feels."

Rohit Sharma will lead his Indian troops against Pakistan in their opening Asia Cup 2023 match in Kandy on September 2. The continental event will soon be followed by the 2023 World Cup set to hosted by India.
