Rohit Sharma opens up on his strategy for World Cup 2023

With India hosting the marquee event and Rohit leading a nation with over a billion cricket fans, the stakes have never been higher. India, which has been yearning for an ICC trophy for the past decade, understands the magnanimity of the challenge ahead.

Set to commence on October 5 in Ahmedabad with a match between last World Cup's finalists, England and New Zealand, the upcoming tournament promises intense cricketing action. Yet, amidst the rising wave of anticipation and speculations, Rohit is committed to centring his energies, replicating the headspace he was in during the 2019 edition of the tournament.

In a recent exclusive interview with PTI, Rohit expressed his desire to return to the mindset he possessed during the 2019 World Cup. He mentioned that for him, it is essential to keep himself relaxed and not worry about external factors. The Indian skipper recalled that period as a particularly good mental and physical preparation phase.

“For me, it is important how I keep myself relaxed and not worry about external factors that play a role, whether positively or not negatively. I want to shut out everything. I want to get into the phase I was in before the 2019 World Cup,” said Rohit.

During World Cup 2019, Rohit delivered a stellar performance, scoring 648 runs and smashing remarkable centuries, which led him to be the tournament's highest run-getter.

For Rohit, it's not just about revisiting the technical aspects of his game but also tapping into the mental and emotional reservoirs that propelled his success two years ago.

Highlighting the importance of the right mindset and preparation, the Indian veteran stated he wants to "revisit that thought process" from 2019, both as a cricketer and as an individual.

“I was in great frame of mind and prepared really well for the tournament. I was in good shape, good mindset. I want to bring that back and I have time to do that. Trying to recollect what were the right things that I was doing before the 2019 World Cup as a cricketer and as a person. I want to revisit that thought-process of mine personally,” added the seasoned campaigner.
