Indian cricket legend Rohit Sharma reached a milestone on Sunday (June 23) as he completed 18 years in international cricket. The veteran batter, fondly known as the ‘Hitman’, celebrated the occasion with a heartfelt Instagram story, sharing a photo of his helmet alongside a simple but powerful caption- "Forever grateful 23.06.07". 

What Is The Significance Of  23.06.07?

It was on June 23, 2007, that Rohit Sharma first donned the India jersey in an ODI against Ireland in Belfast. Since that modest beginning, he has carved a legacy as one of the modern greats of the game. Over nearly two decades, Rohit has made more than 19,000 international runs across formats and has also led the 'Men In Blue' with grace and determination. 


Rohit Sharma's Remarkable Journey 

Rohit Sharma is known for his elegant stroke play and ability to score big hundreds. The star batter's most iconic batting feat remains his world-record of 264 runs in 2014 in ODIs, the highest individual score in the format’s history. He is also the only player to score three double centuries in ODI and has five centuries in T20 World Cups.

Apart from individual performance, Rohit’s leadership has also been a defining chapter. Having captained India in all three formats, he brought stability and consistency, particularly in white-ball cricket.

After years of near-misses in major tournaments, Rohit guided India to glory in the T20 World Cup 2024. He followed it up by lifting the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. India also reached the World Test Championship final and the ODI World Cup final in 2023 under his captaincy. 

When Will Rohit Sharma Play Next For India?

Although the 38-year-old has retired from Test cricket and T20Is, there is still more to come from the veteran. Reports suggest that Rohit is considering a return to ODI cricket, eyeing a final World Cup appearance in 2027. In the short term, he is likely to be back in action during India’s ODI series in Bangladesh this August. 

For now, Rohit Sharma is spending quality time with his family, away from the spotlight.
