India's inspirational skipper Rohit Sharma returned to form in fine fashion against Afghanistan, as after scoring two ducks, he registered his fifth T20I ton and helped the Men in Blue earn a victory in one of the finest ever T20 games played that went to the second super over.
This win meant that India kept the series as they whitewashed the visitors three-nil, which incidentally was also their final game before the T20 World Cup 2024 in June.
Rohit's 69-ball 121* that stole the show after India were in deep trouble at 22/4 ensured that they ended up on 212 as he formed an unbeaten 190-run partnership with Rinku Singh for the fifth wicket. His knock consisted of eleven fours and eight sixes, while the right-hander maintained a healthy strike rate of 175+ by the end of his innings.
His turbulent knock has helped him enter the record books for not just one or two but instead six different reasons:
- Most wins by an Indian Men's captain in T20I
- Most hundreds in T20I
- Most runs by an Indian Captain in T20I
- Most 50+ by an Indian Captain in T20I
- Most sixes as a Captain in T20I
- Highest score by Indian Captain in T20I
It is fair to say that the big-hitter has been immensely influential as a player as well as the captain of the side. Also, not to forget that he smashed two sixes in the first and another biggie in the second Super Over, along with his eight previous maximums during regular overs.
After this series victory, his next assignment will be the five-match Test series against England at home that begins on the 25th of January in Hyderabad.
