There have been numerous instances of different celebrities' deepfake videos getting circulated on social media without their consent or knowledge and causing a stir among the masses as these mislead people into believing that they're the actual person since the videos look legitimate. Something similar has happened with the cricketing superstar Sachin Tendulkar, who expressed his furor over the deepfake video that was made to promote an application.
In a Twitter post (Now X), Tendulkar posted the video and mentioned that it is fake since he does not endorse any of this.
The application named "Skyward Aviator Quest," which, according to the video, helps people earn money, has created a deepfake where Sachin is seen saying that his daughter is playing this game, and he is surprised by how easy it is to earn money nowadays.
"These videos are fake. It is disturbing to see rampant misuse of technology. Request everyone to report videos, ads & apps like these in large numbers. Social Media platforms need to be alert and responsive to complaints. Swift action from their end is crucial to stopping the spread of misinformation and deepfakes," he wrote in the post.
Deepfakes have a long history in today's world of technology since they can replicate any individual. Previously, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised concerns about how deepfakes and AI could disrupt the world in the future.
Sachin urged people to report such videos and ads that can be misleading so that individuals stay away from the fake world.
