In a recent development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to name Agha Salman as the new all-format captain of the national team, replacing Shan Masood as the Test skipper. The decision is part of changes being considered by the board to revamp the national team’s structure and performance.
Pakistan To Assign New All-Format Capitan
According to several sources as quoted by India Today, the PCB has revealed that the leadership overhaul comes in line with broader reforms being planned under PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. He is working closely with newly appointed white-ball head coach Mike Hesson.
In another important move, the PCB will soon unveil a new 'observatory' committee aimed at monitoring developments in Pakistan cricket and advising the board on several issues. The formal announcement is expected after the Eid holidays.
"The two were informed about the decision to form the observatory committee and offered positions on it. Some other players will also be on this committee. He said PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, after discussions with his close aides including new white ball head coach Mike Hesson, is also considering redefining the role of the national selection committee.
It is also important to mention that former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and Sikander Bakht have reportedly been summoned to Lahore and offered roles on this upcoming committee.
Either there will be changes in the current selection committee which would continue to work with the Pakistan team management or a new selection set-up would be announced with prime focus on looking and finding talent from domestic and age group cricket," the source said as quoted by India Today.
Currently leading the national side in T20Is, Salman Ali Agha is seen as a person capable of handling the pressures of leading across formats. His leadership could be officially expanded with the announcement of a red-ball head coach and Test captain expected in the coming weeks.
