Injuries keep mounting in the Indian camp, as Ishan Kishan, who was touted to replace Rishabh Pant in the 5th Test vs England, is not fit and could miss the final game of the series due to an injury. On Wednesday, Pant suffered a nasty injury and had a fractured toe, which almost ruled him out of the ongoing Test.
As per a report by the Times of India, Kishan, who was supposed to replace Pant in the final match-day squad, suffered an ankle injury and had ten stitches on his left foot after he fell from a scooter.
As per TOI, Kishan's injury is serious, and he currently has a plaster on his left ankle. The 5th Test match is still a few days away, but as per the report, it looks like Kishan faces race against time to get match-fit for the crucial game at the Oval.
What happened to Rishabh Pant?
In India's first innings against England, Pant went for a fancy shot, and it struck him on his toe. The batter looked in immediate pain, as the physio came out and he was carried off the field. There is no official update from the BCCI, but it can be concluded that Pant suffered a broken toe.
Several reports have stated that Pant could be out for at-least 6 to 8 weeks, and is certainly ruled out of the remainder of the series. This comes in as a big blow for India, as the side will be short of a batter in the second innings of the Manchester Test.
Why Ishan Kishan was picked to replace Pant?
Kishan has been out of the Indian team for a while, but recently, the Jharkhand batter joined Nottinghamshire for a couple of County Championship matches. The talented southpaw impressed with scores of 87, and 77 against Yorkshire and Somerset, and became the front-runner to replace the injured Pant.
