South Africa’s regular white-ball captains Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma are back in action for their team’s upcoming tour of Australia. Markram will lead the T20I squad, while Bavuma will captain the ODI team.
The Proteas have announced strong squads for both T20Is and ODIs. However, 2 key players will be missing. All-rounder Marco Jansen is recovering from thumb surgery, and David Miller will be playing in The Hundred tournament in England.
Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma To Tour Australia
After leading South Africa to their maiden World Test Championship Title in June, Temba Bavuma and Aiden Markram were rested. While Markram was rested from the Zimbabwe tour, Bavuma was recovering from a hamstring injury suffered during the WTC game.
However, both senior batters are fit and will lead South Africa in their respective white-ball formats on the upcoming tour to Australia in August, featuring 3 ODIs and as many T20Is.
The T20I squad includes some fresh faces and returning players. Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs are back, while young talents like Dewald Brevis and Lhuan-dre Pretorius keep their places. Notably, experienced spinner Tabraiz Shamsi is not included.
The ODI squad also includes Tony de Zorzi, Matthew Breetzke, and Wiaan Mulder, who steps in as an all-rounder in Jansen’s absence. Despite being one of South Africa’s top ODI batters, Rassie van der Dussen is not in the 50-over squad but remains in contention for the T20 World Cup.
