India's problems with injuries are increasing with each passing day in the ongoing India tour of England. Notably, the Indian wicketkeeper batter, Rishabh Pant, suffered an injury during the first Innings of the fourth Test.
In the 68th over of the innings, Pant attempted to play a reverse sweep against Chris Woakes, which he missed. The ball crashed into his toes, and the batter was seen in severe discomfort. He was to be carried out on a stretcher from the ground.
As quoted by The Indian Express, a BCCI source confirmed - "The scan report showed a fracture and he is ruled out for six weeks. The medical team is trying to see if he can come out to bat again by taking a pain killer. He still needs support to walk though and chances of his batting looks very bleak."
Big Blow For India's Chances
Ben Stokes won the toss ahead of the game and put India to bat. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul gave India a good start, and they walked out into lunch on Day 1 without losing a single wicket.
However, after lunch, Chris Woakes opened up the match as he dismissed KL Rahul. The visitors lost two more crucial wickets in the session, and that put them slightly on the back foot.
After tea, B Sai Sudharsan and Rishabh Pant began the repair work for India, and the duo was doing a brilliant job for the team. This was until Pant was upto his own antics trying to upset the rhythm of the bowler with a reverse sweep.
As the injury struck, India and Pant walked off the ground. Ravindra Jadeja came out to bat. Sai Sudharsan also fell after this, and it was Shardul Thakur and Jadeja who saw India through to stumps without further loss.
There were discussions and speculations about whether Pant will be able to bat in this innings. However, as of the latest update, India is now effectively five wickets down, and England has the advantage at the start of Day 2 in the fourth Test match.

India are already experiencing a injury problem in the series. All-rounder Nitish Reddy has been ruled out of the series owing to a knee injury. On the other hand, Akash Deep suffering a groin injury and Arshdeep Singh, nursing a thumb injury were also not available for the fourth Test.
With Pant going out of the series, the list is now extended adding to the troubles of team India.
