After KL Rahul and Shubman Gill departed scoring valuable knocks, Ravindra Jadeja led India's commendable fightback, forming a sensational stand for the fifth wicket with Washington Sundar. He eventually went on to complete his fifth hundred in Test cricket.
The Old Trafford crowd was on his feet as he received massive applause for what has been an exceptional display of grit and determination.
Jadeja's batting partner Washington Sundar also slammed a memorable Test century. After that, both teams agreed to shake hands and conclude the game in a stalemate.
Jadeja, Sundar Ensure Fighting Draw For India At Old Trafford
In response to India's first innings total of 358 runs, England posted a huge score of 669 runs, riding on prolific tons from skipper Ben Stokes and his predecessor Joe Root. Ollie Pope was also among the handy contributors, scoring 71 runs off just 128 deliveries.
Although India had a shaky start to their innings, losing Yashasvi Jaiswal and B Sai Sudharsan on consecutive deliveries, Rahul and Gill consolidated the innings with a gritty 188-run stand. Despite the duo getting out in quick succession, Sundar and Jadeja ensured India had no further hiccups, managing to keep themselves alive before the decider at Kennington Oval.
The all-rounders neutralised the English attack with perfection, stitching an unbeaten stand of 203 runs for the fifth wicket. Their valiant effort helped India draw the Test match and keep the scoreline 2-1 ahead of the fifth Test, starting on July 31.
