Cricket fans will never forget July 2, 2022, at Edgbaston, when India's fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah surprised everyone, not with the ball, but with the bat. In an unusual and one-of-a-kind moment, Bumrah hit 35 runs in an over off England's experienced pacer Stuart Broad during a Test match.

This over became the most expensive in Test cricket history. Bumrah, who is famous for his lethal bowling, proved he was equally deadly with the bat.

It all happened when Broad bowled a series of short balls, thinking Jasprit Bumrah would struggle. But the plan completely backfired. Bumrah kept hitting pull shots and hooks, scoring freely and fearlessly.

Jasprit Bumrah Scripted History With 35-Run Over vs Stuart Broad

On the first ball, Jasprit Bumrah started with a boundary. The second delivery was a wide that raced to the boundary, adding five runs in total. The next ball was a no-ball, and Bumrah smashed it for a massive six, giving India seven runs off that one delivery.

What followed was absolute carnage. Bumrah hit 3 consecutive fours, punishing Stuart Broad’s short-pitched bowling. On the fifth legal ball, Bumrah launched another big six into the stands, and he finished the over with a single on the final delivery.

In total, the over went for 35 runs, with 29 runs coming off Bumrah’s bat and 6 as extras. Before this, the record for most runs in a Test over was 28, held by Brian Lara, George Bailey, and Keshav Maharaj. Bumrah broke that record in style.

This was also the second time Stuart Broad gave away over 35 runs in a single over. In 2007, Yuvraj Singh hit him for six sixes in a T20 World Cup match.

In that 2022 innings, Bumrah scored 31 runs off just 16 balls, with 2 sixes and 4 fours. That late blitz helped India post 416 runs in the first inning. However, India ended up losing the Test by 7 wickets.
