Sam Konstas, the 19-year-old Australian sensation has made his mark with his debut Test match. The young right-handed batter put up a solid 60 off 56 balls against the Indian pace attack to help Australia record the Most Runs in the morning session of the opening day of a Boxing Day Test.

Melbourne witnessed the Baggy Greens score 112 runs before the lunch break on Day 1 of the 4th Test against India. This marks the highest number of runs made in the morning session of the opening day of a Boxing Day Test, surpassing the previous record of 111 runs set 17 years ago in 2007, also against the Men in Blue at MCG.

However, Konstas cannot be credited alone for this feat as Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne also contributed to thrash Indian pace stalwarts and build a solid foundational inning.

Australia Look Strong After First Session

After Australia won the toss and chose to bat, Sam Konstas and Usman Khawaja came in to bat dashing India's hopes of chipping a wicket early in the game. The two paired up for a solid 89-run stand as Konstas played some audacious scoops and drives to frustrate Bumrah and Siraj. The youngster notched up his 50 in 52 balls and fell to Ravindra Jadeja for a plum LBW at the second ball of the 20th over.

Marnus Labuschagne, who came in to bat next scored 12 off 12 deliveries with Khawaja racking up a decent 38 off 73 balls. Notably, dropping Nathan McSweeney has worked in the favour of the Aussies as Konstas' firepower helped them record a new feat as they stand at 112-1 after the first session.
