The fateful night of November 13, 2014, at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, will be remembered for current India captain Rohit Sharma's onslaught over Sri Lanka bowlers, where the opener slammed the highest-ever One-Day International (ODI) individual score (264) and inscribed his name in the annals of cricketing history.

Fresh from tasting his first-ever ODI double century, Sharma struck a record-shattering second 200 within one year.

With India leading the five ODI series, 3-0, Sharma drafted into the India XI for the fourth ODI, played with caution in the early part of his innings. The batter reached his 50 in 72 balls, which hardly indicated the carnage which was witnessed by fans, thereafter.

Upping the ante, the Mumbai-born batter swiftly reached his fourth ODI century in as many balls, adding one six and seven fours to his tally.

Soon, Sharma hit fifth gear and launched an outright attack on the Sri Lankan bowlers, who could not find any cover, as the right-handed batter reached his 150 in no time.

With Virat Kohli holding one end down, Sharma switched his style and started batting in video game mode, cantering bowlers for sixes at will and showing no respect for his opponents.

It only took Sharma 26 balls to reach his second-double hundred, which no ODI batter had ever breached. Despite Kohli's wicket, the Mumbai Indians captain did not show any respite and leaped frog from 150 to 250 in 15 deliveries, with 32 fours and eight monstrous sixes.

The dashing opener fell for 264 (173 balls, 33 fours and nine sixes), but more before scaling new heights and exhibiting fearless, impactful, and groundbreaking innings.

Sharma went on to win the player for the match award and registered his third ODI double-ton in 2017 against the same opponents in Mohali.
