RCB and CSK franchises put up a high-scoring exhibition in Bengaluru in match number 52 of the IPL 2025 season. Virat Kohli reclaimed the coveted ‘Orange Cap’ through the course of his match-winning innings in the game. In other news, Zimbabwe Cricket has named Zimbabwe’s squad for their upcoming one-off Test match against England.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Saturday, May 3.

RCB Overcome CSK In High-Scoring Thriller

RCB overcame age-old nemesis CSK by two runs in Bengaluru in match 52 of the IPL 2025 season. Batting first, RCB mounted 213-5 from 20 overs, with senior opening batter Virat Kohli top-scoring in the innings through his 33-ball 62. Kohli’s opening partner Jacob Bethell also clubbed 55 runs off 33 balls, while lower-order batter Romario Shepherd slapped 53 unbeaten runs from just 14 deliveries. For CSK, Matheesha Pathirana unfurled the spell of the high-scoring innings with figures of 3-36.

Chasing 214, CSK nearly pulled off their daunting pursuit courtesy of Ayush Mhatre’s explosive 48-ball 94 and Ravindra Jadeja’s fighting 45-ball 77*. However, Lungi Ngidi’s three-fer and tight spells from Krunal Pandya and Yash Dayal ensured RCB’s close win.

Virat Kohli Reclaims Orange Cap Of IPL 2025

RCB veteran Virat Kohli reclaimed the ‘Orange Cap’ of the IPL 2025 season by going past Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, Suryakumar Yadav and previous table-topper Sai Sudharsan at one stroke. The cricketer scored 62 runs from just 33 balls with five fours and five sixes against CSK in Bengaluru in match 52 of the IPL 2025 season. Kohli soared past Sudharsan’s tally of 504 runs to become only the second batter this IPL 2025 to tally over 500 runs. The legendary Indian batter is currently sitting on a pile of 505 runs from 11 innings at an astonishing average of 63.12.

Romario Shepherd Slaps Joint-Second Fastest IPL Fifty

West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd slapped the joint-second fastest half-century, also the fastest by any RCB batter, in the history of the IPL, doing so by bringing up his fifty from just 14 balls against CSK in Bengaluru. Batting at number seven for the RCB, the cricketer launched four boundaries and six huge sixes to reach 53* off 14 as the hosts mounted 213-5 from 20 overs. Joining KL Rahul and Pat Cummins (14 balls each) for the record, Shepherd finds himself only behind Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 13-ball fifty for the all-time IPL record.

Kagiso Rabada Suspended, GT Participation In Doubt

South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been provisionally suspended from cricket. Last month, the cricketer left the Gujarat Titans franchise after playing just two matches citing personal reasons. However, it is now revealed that he returned back home because of an adverse analytical finding for the use of a recreational drug. While earlier reports indicated that Kagiso Rabada might return to the Titans group within the next few days, his suspension now puts his IPL 2025 participation in doubt.

Zimbabwe Announce Squad For ENG Test

Zimbabwe Cricket Board has announced Zimbabwe’s 15-player squad for their upcoming men’s one-off Test match against England later this month. Craig Ervine is set to continue as Zimbabwe captain, and he will be accompanied by fellow senior pros like Sean Williams and comeback man Sikandar Raza. Zimbabwe is set to face England at Trent Bridge in Nottingham for a historic four-day affair between May 22 and May 25.
