Gujarat Titans inflicted a crushing defeat over SRH in match 51 of the IPL 2025 season in Ahmedabad. Sai Sudharsan and Prasidh Krishna retained their ‘Orange’ and ‘Purple’ caps respectively. In other news, the Bangladesh cricket team is set to tour UAE later this month for a short two-match T20I series against the hosts.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Friday, May 2.

Gujarat Titans Wallop SRH In Ahmedabad

Gujarat Titans outclassed the visiting SRH team at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium in match 51 of the IPL 2025 season. Being invited to bat first, Titans mounted 224-6 from 20 overs, with captain Shubman Gill leading the way by blasting 76 runs from just 38 balls. Jos Buttler at number three also whacked 64 off 37 deliveries before Jaydev Unadkat’s tight final over that yielded three wickets for the SRH.

Abhishek Sharma got SRH off to a flier in the run-chase by cracking 74 runs from just 41 balls with four fours and six sixes. However, tight spells from Mohammed Siraj (2-33) and Prasidh Krishna (2-19) took the wheels out of SRH’s pursuit, restricting the visitors 38 runs below their target.

Sudharsan, Prasidh Reclaim Orange, Purple Caps

Gujarat Titans colleagues Sai Sudharsan and Prasidh Krishna reclaimed the coveted ‘Orange’ and ‘Purple’ caps respectively from Mumbai Indians’ Suryakumar Yadav and RCB quick Josh Hazlewood. In doing so, Sudharsan also became the first batter of the IPL 2025 season to complete 500 runs, and is currently sitting on a pile of 504 runs from 10 innings at an average of 50.40. Prasidh Krishna, on the other hand, levelled up with Hazlewood (18 wickets) with the big wicket of SRH opener Travis Head. However, a better bowling average puts Krishna ahead of the seasoned Australian speedster.

Bangladesh To Tour UAE For T20I Series

The Bangladesh cricket team is set to tour UAE later this month for a short two-match T20I series. The series is set to serve as a precursor for both teams ahead of the men’s 2025 T20 Asia Cup in India later this year. The Emirates Cricket Board confirmed the development on May 2 on their social media platforms. Both matches will be hosted by the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on May 17 and May 19 respectively. The series will also mark Bangladesh and UAE’s return to T20I lore since December 2024.

Kagiso Rabada To Re-Join Titans Before MI Game

South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada will reportedly be re-joining the Gujarat Titans franchise ahead of their upcoming away match against Mumbai Indians. It is worth noting that the speedster left IPL 2025 earlier this season citing personal reasons. As per an ESPNCricinfo report, Rabada is expected to join the Gujarat Titans camp on Saturday, May 3; i.e., a couple of days prior to their all-important game at the Wankhede Stadium. The cricketer played just two matches for the Gujarat Titans this IPL 2025 season before opting for a personal break.

Sri Lanka Women Thump SA In Match Three Of Tri-Series

Sri Lanka Women thumped their South African counterparts by five wickets in match three of the Women’s ODI tri-series in Colombo. Batting first, South Africa listed 235-9 from 50 overs, with Annerie Dercksen scoring 61* of those runs at run-a-ball. For Sri Lanka, new ball operator Malki Madara picked up four wickets, including three in the slog overs to claim figures of 4-50. Young off-spinner Dewmi Vihanga picked up three important scalps of her own to seize 3-41.

Chasing 236, Sri Lankan middle-order batters Harshitha Samarawickrama (77 off 93) and Kavisha Dilhari (61 off 75) composed majestic half-centuries to steer the hosts past the finishing line with more than three overs to spare.
