The past couple of days have been tragic for the newly crowned Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. After winning the league on June 3, the team had a victory celebration in the Garden City on June 4, however, tragic events occurred which led to massive chaos.

Bengaluru Stampede: What transpired on June 4

Several RCB fans barged into the Chinnaswamy Stadium to get a glimpse of their players, however, this created a stampede type situation and more than 11 innocent people lost their lives and at-least 50 people got injured.

This created an outrage on social media as despite the Police officials urging not to host the event, the team went through with it and a tragic event took place. Reportedly an FIR has been registered against RCB's star player, Virat Kohli and the marketing head of the team was been arrested. There is also a demand that the franchise gets at-least two year ban, just like CSK and RR.

Why CSK, RR got banned?

The two teams got banned in the 2016, 2017 edition as they faced severe charges. RR players were indulged in spot-fixing allegations while top CSK officials were involved in betting scandals in 2013. RR's previous owner, Raj Kundra was also involved in betting activities and the IPL governing body took a harsh decision to ban the franchises for two seasons. The two teams were back from the 2018 season onwards.

Can RCB also get banned?

There is no concrete evidence that RCB players urged the officials to host the victory celebration, however, there was some negligence on the part of RCB management for going ahead with the event despite warning.

It was a collective failure of RCB management, and Karnataka government, and if thorough investigation takes place and there are evidences which goes against the RCB side, then there is a good chance that under pressure, the IPL governing body might have to make the harsh decision of banning the franchise.
